Matilda is the leading UK nomination since 2009s Billy Elliot

The musical adaptation of Roald Dahl’s 1988 novel ‘Matilda‘ is as spectacular as the young character herself picking up 12 Tony award nominations.

Nominated for best musical, amongst an array of others, The Royal Shakespeare Company’s Matilda is the most successful UK musical since 2009s Billy Elliot which was nominated for 15 awards.

The UK theatre scene has fared well in this year’s nominations with costume and set designers up for awards.

Matilda stars are guaranteed a win.

Four female actresses performing the role of Matilda (Sophia Gennusa, Oona Laurence, Bailey Ryon and Milly Shapiro ) have already received a special Tony award for excellence as multiple winners for best actress is not available.
